Masquespacio goes Memphis with “Toadstool” furniture collection for Missana

Over the past six years, we at KNSTRCT have had the pleasure of witnessing the creative evolution of Valencia-based design studio Masquespacio, as they have diversified their craft from interior design and graphic design — to furniture design with the launch of their “Toadstool” collection for Missana

At the helm of Masquespacio is Ana Milena Hernández Palacios and Christophe Penasse, a creative duo who joined forces with Missana two years ago when the upholstery brand appointed the them as their artistic directors. From that moment the members of the multidisciplinary study began to learn about each of the stages of the upholstery production. Their growing passion for furniture and product design led them down an artistic rabbit whole of object creation.

Palacios and Penasse channeled their newfound passion toward a family of furniture pieces inspired inspired by the visual culture and making the most of the out-standing upholstery technique of Missana.

This family of puffs, table and sofa bench represents very clearly what Masquespacio’s work is, inspired by the visual culture and by the fact that graphic design is always present in one way or another through their projects. The fusion of materials seeks also to highlight that visual culture, recognizing the Memphis movement and Michael Graves’ architecture, while enhancing Missana’s upholstery technique. Upholstery that in this particular case merge perfectly with the noble materials used, marble, wood and golden plated metals.

The Toadstool collection allows an infinite number of combinations, adapting the products to each individual’s needs, choosing the preferred material, marble, wood, golden plated metal and the different color fabrics for the different parts of the collections as per the client’s unique taste.
