Canadian fashion house Ports 1961 have set up shop in Shanghai, with a stunning, Yabu Pushelberg designed flagship boutique in the city’s commercial district. The space is outfitted with blonde timber, creamy marble floors and simple, yet bold architectural elements, designed for the discerning consumer who's looking for something more out of their shopping experience.

George Yabu and Glenn Pushelberg, creative directors and co-founders of Yabu Pushelberg, have been crafting imaginative, thoughtful and honest designs spanning the globe; London, New York and Miami Beach Edition Hotels, Bergdorf Goodman and Louis Vuitton, just to name a few. The creative duo are known best for their ability of elevating interior style through the use of elegant materials and minimalist accents, always with a sophisticated, often monochromatic color pallet.

For Ports’ Shanghai outpost, Yabu Pushelberg’s sharp design sensibility unfolds behind the three-dimensional black and white tiered façade of Toronto-based architecture firm Uufie. The gridded façade sets a contrasting tone for the interior, as the simple, yet bold shapes make their way into the space. This time, as systematic wood slatted partitions that form grids throughout the shop. The store is comprised of shapely silhouettes of circles and squares that stand above creamy grey marble floors. The blonde timber walls house an assortment of shelving for ample product display. Leather goods and jewelry are tucked inside bespoke glass covered tables, standing alone in a heap of fine interior detailing. The layout of the space and wood arches urge movement from one area of the boutique to the next.

Although the stores is perched among the neighboring skyscrapers and flanked by a busy intersection, this is pure balance and harmony.
