Wood Chipping: Onion Designs All Wood Eatery at Emquartier
/Bangkok's EmQuartier shopping center opened in March 2015, and is part of The Mall Group's multi-billion-baht 'EM District' project set to transform Phrom Phong into one of the biggest retail hubs of the city. Inside the massive arcade is a EAT Rice & Noodles, a tiny eatery entirely outfitted in wood.
Crafted by local design firm, Onion, the 770 square foot rice and noodle shop stands out as a creative gem situated inside EmQuartier's basement food court. Constructed entirely out of blonde oak, Onion's design reinforces EAT's mission of serving up premium, no-frills street food with wooden awnings that create a patio feel. Additionally, the open style kitchen helps to keep in line with EAT's street style approach.
A restaurant chipped away from a wood block - so it seems. Typically crafty of Onion, a firm who constantly pushes creative boundaries, to take an element as regular as a fabric awning, and completely transform it into a hard wood surface. We never thought of it like that.
