Shanghai Stunner: Atelier I-N-D-J unveils JI-SHI Urban Harvest
/Holy light fixture heaven. One peek inside JI-SHI Urban Harvest and guests can’t help but cast their eyes upward to ogle the delicate balance of suspended lighting. Developed specially for the project, the intricate system of adjustable pulleys house concrete counterweights and cast resin drop pendants with brass cowl diffused LEDs. Without a doubt, the teardrop-shaped fixtures are the shining star of the Shanghai-based restaurant.
Designed by Atelier I-N-D-J, the luxe eatery is located lakeside on the outskirts of the newly built Disney Town, offering a respite from the stroller-schlepping crowd of park-goers. Occupying what was once a simple, concrete-framed building, the revamped interior exposes various slabs, columns, and ductwork, while enveloping other areas in planes of plaster.
Radial ribs provide an airy, birdcage-like framework, enclosing private dining spaces and banquets while lending a sense of intimacy. An irregular, chevron patterned floor creates movement throughout the restaurant, offsetting gently curved booths. Tufted, Bordeaux leather is married with warm wood and copper touches throughout the dining room, set against gradient white paint that blends plaster and ply.
The striking interior begs the question, “Who knew Disney could be so luxe?” Not us.
