Bubble & Stitch meets Style & Kitsch: Amsterdam’s First 24/7 Laundry Locker Service
/Snapshot: Bubble & Stitch, designed by BURO NANA, offers a unique laundry experience reminiscent of retro Americana.
Taking their cue from vintage American Laundromats, BURO NANA has designed a retro chic launderette called Bubble & Stitch, located in Amsterdam. Interestingly, there are no actual washers and dryers in the central area of the shop. Instead, Bubble & Stitch is part of a new craze of 24/7 Laundromats where locker space and mobile phones run the show.
With the help of the design team behind BURO NANA, Bubble & Stitch appears bright and inviting. Using a fresh and monochromatic color palette of seafoam mint green, the launderette is reminiscent of vintage American kitsch. Bright orbs of light fixtures hang from the ceiling in a careful grid formation, illuminating the simplicity and color-scheme of the shop.
After downloading and registering for Bubble & Stitch’s mobile application, laundry service may begin. In order to keep everything organized, the shop is equipped with an effortlessly easy locker system. Each locker is outfitted with boldly simple white typography. The locker numbers, laid vertically on each door, keep the laundry system in neat methodical order.
Although the inspiration for this Dutch shop is vintage Americana, the design team behind BURO NANA is made up of a graphic designer from Milan and a retail designer from Paris. Together, they have degrees in product/industrial design as well as graphics and advertising. At Bubble & Stitch, they have used their knowledge of product, branding, and retail design to create a shop that’s the first of its kind in Amsterdam.
In a space that’s soft and inviting, this wash and fold business is sure to start a trend.
